Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. What is the difference between Beginner and Intermediate Level Classes:

In the beginner level, we learn the basic principles and how to use the equipment as well as the essential level exercises. We will move at a slower pace and take the time to answer any questions regarding form or modifications. You are ready for the Intermediate program when you are comfortable with the reformer, your settings, and how to change them, as well as how to do the basic exercises. We do not expect you to perform the exercises perfectly, just to know your modifications for your body. The Intermediate classes run at a faster pace and you should know what we are talking about when we are cueing basic principles. We will also introduce other pieces of equipment such as the tower and the chair.

  2. Why is the beginner level less expensive than the other classes?

The beginner classes prices arelower as an incentive to get new clients into our studio. The current rates for the intermediate/advanced classes are actually lower per class than they were last year. If you choose to stay in a beginner level class due to the price or because you enjoy the slower pace, just know that there will be beginners in your class.

  3. Why do I need Socks?

In order to maintain the cleanliness of our studio, we require that you wear socks, especially for any feet in straps exercises. If you forget your socks, you will be asked to skip these exercises. We have special ToeSox available for sale in-studio. These socks have grips on the bottom and separate toes for full range of movement. Cost for the socks is $15 + gst.

  4. What is the make-up policy?

Here at Edmonton Pilates Centre we want to deliver the full value of the class you purchase. If you need to miss a few of your regular classes please let us know at least 24 hours (earlier if possible) in advance so that we may let someone else take your spot as a make-up. In return, we are happy to put a credit on your account for a future make up class. If you miss your class with no notice you are not entitled to a make-up class. We will be tracking missed classes and the make-up classes diligently in order to be as accommodating as possible. In the case of unforeseen circumstances such as illness or sick children, we still want a phone call BEFORE your missed class and we will do a make-up for these reasons if they are not regular habits.

  5. Can I leave my cell phone on?

We understand that some of our clients are on-call or have children in school or daycare and need to be available for contact. If at all possible please turn your cell phones off during your class just as you would for a massage or aerobics class. If you must leave it on, please turn it to vibrate and take all calls outside of the studio so that your fellow classmates can still get the most out of their class. When you rejoin the class, wait for the next exercise to start, as trying to jump in mid-exercise can be dangerous, and sometimes requires the teachers extra attention when she was already in the middle of something else. Please keep chat to a minimum during a class, so that everyone can hear the instructions. Questions regarding pilates are welcome! We are proud of the friendly community we have built, but all the while we need to focus on the purpose for which everyone has signed up.

  6. Can I bring my baby?

Sleeping babies in carseats or strollers are allowed. If the baby wakes up, please take the baby outside of the studio to calm him/her so that the other students in your class are not disturbed. We want to accommodate new mothers, but you will still be charged for your class, even if you spend the majority of the class with the baby. For more active babies that don't yet crawl, we encourage private appointments where your instructor can help you entertain your baby while you get your workout. Babies that are mobile are not allowed into the studio for safety reasons.
