Mat Classes
Mat classes are exercises done using your own body for resistance, bringing attention to posture and alignment. Proper muscle recruitment is emphasized using small apparatus such as fitness circles, flex bands, weighted balls, and arc barrels. Classes are non-refundable unless cancelled due to insufficient registration. Make up classes are allowed during the current session provided that there is room. Classes run for 8 weeks during the following time frames:
Fees:
$119 + GST for 8 classes, or $17 drop in per class per session, but please pre-register to ensure space in the class.
We have two levels of mat classes:
BEGINNER MAT
This class is designed to introduce you to Joseph Pilates method of exercise, originally named "contrology". We will cover basic principles of body alignment for optimal performance and injury prevention and teach the essential level exercises for the STOTT PILATES® repertoire.
You will learn your body's strengths and areas for improvement, including core strengthening and overall flexibility. You will also improve your balance, gracefulness and body awareness.
This class is suitable for all levels of fitness.
We incorporate the use of small apparatus for these classes.
PROGRESSIVE MAT
After having completed at least one session of Beginner Mat, you may feel ready to move at a smoother pace and learn some of the intermediate and selected advanced exercises. Incorporating the use of small apparatus such as the fitness circle, flex band, weighted balls, and foam rollers we will challenge your core and periphery in a more coordinated and challenging manner.
This class is suitable for those who are bodily aware and know their appropriate modifications to best suit their goals.
