Tamara Gervais
Tamara has a passion for traveling and spent 7 years, intermittently, traveling around the world, where she embedded herself in the local cultures and was exposed to alternative medicine and various lifestyle ideologies. During these travel’s Tamara developed strong core beliefs that the mind, body and soul are deeply connected and that improvement of one area will ultimately impact all three. These experiences awakened her to the idea that she had a great deal of interest in helping people realize their full potential by working towards their highest level of strength and well being.
She then spent two years, training to become a pilot, and became a member of The Edmonton Flying Club.
Tamara is now in her last year of studying the ancient technique and methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. In her studies she has learned the importance of the two main types of exercise, influenced in traditional Chinese Medicine. The first being of an external type, aimed at developing muscles and sinews. The second is a form of internal exercise, aimed at developing “energy” (qi) which “massages” the internal organs by a coordination of movement, breathing and concentration. Tamara believes that Pilates is a perfect marriage of these two types of exercise, which are so important to a person’s health and wellbeing.
Tamara was introduced to different forms of Pilates over 10 years ago. With this form of exercise she has gained a deeper mind body connection and awareness. She uses her Pilate’s principle in every form of exercise, and even in everyday activities. Improvement of her posture, a decrease in back pain, an increase in muscular strength, length and tone, and a reduced stress level, are only some of the benefits that Tamara has experienced by practicing Pilates.
Her current passion is to teach the STOTT PILATES® method, ultimately sharing the benefits that she has received, with others. |
